Innovative technology for your budget
What does our revenue model look like?
Our revenue model is built around competitively priced licenses and customer-friendly implementation rates. Since our founding in 1999, this vision has remained unchanged. Starting with a small team of developers, we’ve focused on data capture, text recognition, and data analysis solutions, always prioritizing user needs and feedback. Our flagship platform, EasySeparate, launched in 1999, exemplifies our commitment to this vision. Today, it continues to evolve and meet client needs.
The revenue model and the early years of EasyData
In the beginning, EasyData leveraged external SDKs (Software Development Kits) that operated under third-party license structures. While effective, this approach posed challenges for our long-term revenue vision.
For every new EasyData customer we had to pay a license fee to the SDK manufacturer. Although aligned with their business model, we found this approach less compatible with our philosophy of cost predictability and control. The main issues we faced with this model were:
- Unpredictable Costs: Manufacturers could adjust prices or licensing terms without notice.
- Limited Control: Dependency on external providers restricted our ability to maintain stable pricing for clients.
To use an analogy, relying on external licensing is like playing a soccer game where the goalposts are moving during the match. It’s hard to score, you know. This lack of stability motivated us to reduce reliance on external technologies wherever possible and go for our own solutions.
EasyData revenue model development
Recognizing these challenges and using our entrepreneur skills, EasyData began developing proprietary technologies early on. We are always driven by innovation in the first place, not just by sales figures. As a result, we’ve phased out external solutions and adopted a transparent, stable licensing policy tailored to client needs.
Our approach relies on long-term agreements and predictable costs. Clients value the clarity and reliability of our model, which has been crafted to ensure a positive experience for all stakeholders.
The revenue model for On-Premise software
The standard installation solution that we stood for years, we deliver a software solution (service) on your server. That method no longer works, listening to our customers, the preference is for a secure solution in The Cloud. Without hassle and sometimes supplemented with a customized SLA for clients with preconditions that apply to their situation. The changing market and, of course, the wishes of potential clients have led to Cloud adjustments of our revenue model.
Although The Cloud has become the leading in our services, On-Premise is still possible in most situations. Ask for the conditions!
On-Premise software can be split into the component licence model, as is customary with On-Premise software. There is a licensed number of users and fixed described functionality.
The other important component of Premise software is the local installation. The software solution is installed on your server. So you are primarily responsible if something goes wrong with the hardware, conflicting software, malfunctioning software updates, hackers and other nastiness. Our revenue model provides customized support. How we put this into practice depends on your situation and the software solution complexity that we intend to deliver.
The revenue model for Cloud services
As an example, we take our Digital Transformation platform EasySeparate, which is stable and is the foundation for our Cloud services. The world is changing and where our EasySeparate platform used to be delivered ‘On Premise’, we now see the demand for Cloud services increasing enormously. We use a different pricing structure for this than for ‘On Premise’ software solutions. Our revenue model remains the same and clear.
Historically, we specialized in on-premise software solutions, where the software was installed on clients’ hardware. The world has been changing rapidly and we change with it. As our clients’ preferences shift toward cloud-based services, we’ve adapted our offer and revenue model accordingly.
At the same time, for the customers that want or have to have the software on their grounds, we still offer on premise options, please inquire! “On premise” has its own features that are still in demand with some customers:
- Licenses are based on the number of users and specified functionalities.
- Local installation on your server gives you full control but also please mind that all the costs of handling hardware, resolving software conflicts, timely updates, and cybersecurity risks are on you.
Of course, EasyData provides tailored support for on premise installations based on your needs and the complexity of the software. While the market increasingly favors cloud solutions, on-premise options remain available upon request.
Our Digital Transformation Platform, EasySeparate, is now primarily delivered as a cloud service due to a drastic demand increase for cloud-based deployments vs on premise. The cost structure for our customers is simplified, yet transparent.
Your Cloud service
It works according to a service model, so there are no software licence provisions. Cloud solutions are aimed at providing a predefined model. That model is focused on providing a service that directly matches your wishes, without installation on your server. Such a cloud service is often also operational faster than the On-Premise software variant.
You are not responsible for the hardware yourself. EasyData, to the extent agreed in the SLA, ensures availability, a good result of the purchased service and sufficient capacity. In addition, EasyData must try for all preconditions that enable the proper functioning of the service. All of this is agreed for a much lower amount than an On-Premise licence model. We see this as the main reason that software development is shifting to the Cloud. And again, Cloud services fit perfectly within our existing revenue model: Sharply priced Cloud services in combination with friendly implementation rates.
Benefit from our knowledge
With 25 years of experience, EasyData has specialized in software development for text recognition, data capture from various sources, and other fields within Data Science. Over time, we have moved from purely executive tasks to a more consultative approach, a result of experience and seniority.
When we’re engaged to optimize processes, it is about Content Revenue Model. In these cases, rather than providing a direct service, we perform analysis and development and deliver comprehensive reports or documentation. These resources serve as a foundation for your engineers or knowledge workers to implement the findings effectively.
Business processes evolve, but our revenue model does not
Over the years, market trends and client expectations have shaped how we package our solutions. For instance, in 2010, it was common for clients to request a “Site License” paired with an EasySeparate installation. By 2024, we don’t have such requests.
The pace of change in the software industry is relentless, both in terms of solutions and licensing structures. Despite this, EasyData’s revenue model has stood the test of time. By combining smart services with affordable expertise, we continue to build enduring partnerships with our clients.
Revenue model with Open-Source software
A change that we have observed in recent decades is the increase in Open-Source algorithms in the market. Business processes are changing and the associated facilitating and relieving services. While our involvement with Business Processes has not changed, you do see a change in the way in which we put this into practice commercially. Occasionally, we are ahead of the game, often in step with others and certainly not behind.
Business Processes and Data Science
EasyData is built around Data Science specialists, an expertise that will continue to develop in the coming decades. We cannot therefore rule out the possibility that a revenue model will develop that you will not yet find in this article. As stated, we are excited to learn. Do you have a proposal for a service or development in this context that you do not recognize in this article? It is best to contact us.
In recent decades, we’ve observed the growing adoption of Open-Source software. This shift has influenced business processes and the complementary services that support them. While EasyData’s commitment to optimizing Business Processes has not wavered, we’ve adjusted our commercial approach to reflect this industry-wide evolution. Sometimes, we are ahead of the game in adopting new practices; other times, we stay in step with the broader market. But we are certainly never left behind.
Business Processes and Data Science
At its core, EasyData is a team of Data Science specialists, and we recognize that this field will continue to grow and transform. As such, we remain open to exploring new revenue models that align with emerging trends and the state of the industry.
We’re always eager to explore innovative approaches that benefit both our clients and the broader business landscape. If you have a specific idea or proposal for a service or development model that isn’t addressed here, we encourage you to reach out.
